PITTSFIELD , Mass. – The Hampshire softball team delivered a get-back win, 14-2 via the mercy rule against Pittsfield on Wednesday.

Last spring, the Generals handed three losses, including a 6-2 decision in the title game of the Western Massachusetts Class B tournament.

This year, Pittsfield continued its recent struggles, dropping its third straight game and second straight by a double-digit margin.

Hampshire got ahead early, scoring four runs in the first. Then the visitors got another four in the second.

Things went from bad to worse when Reygan Horstmann's RBI double keyed a six-run third to make it 14-0.

Hampshire starting pitcher Ryanne Dubay had a perfect game through three innings.

The hat ended with Paxton Ebling's single to start the bottom of the fourth. She scored on Mia Dejesus' double, and Dejesus came home on a line drive single from Nevaeh Lopez.

The contest was heavily influenced by ripping 40 mph wind gusts.

Pittsfield utilized two pitchers in the game in Ava McMahon, a ninth-grade starter, as well as junior DeJesus.

Though Pittsfield’s performance was not up to expectations for the returning Final 4 team they fought through the devastating temperatures and situation handed to them.

When in transition for the Generals heading into the fourth coach Brian Macdonald had words of confidence and encouragement for the players.

And those key words brought the Generals energy up in the dugout, but Dubay (seven strikeouts was able to limit the damage).

Pittsfield (1-3) hosts Lenox on Monday. The Generals travel to Westhampton to face Hampshire on May 12.
