WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Tyler Dostie laid down a sacrifice bunt in the top of the sixth inning to break a scoreless tie and send the Wahconah baseball team on to a 2-0 win over Mount Greylock on Monday.

Sam McLaughlin started the winning rally when he reached first base on a dropped third strike. James Rabuse then singled, sending McLaughlin to third.

With one out, Dostie drove in the go-ahead run.

McLaughlin later provided some insurance by working a bases-loaded walk in the top of the seventh.

Rabuse went the distance on the mound to earn the win, striking out 11, walking one and scattering three hits.

Jameson Bayliss and Eli Kristensen combined to strike out 13 and allow just one earned run for Mount Greylock.

“We lost a tough one tonight,” Mount Greylock coach Rick Paris said. “It was a pitcher's duel.  Jamo was sharp tonight, he was hitting his spots and his fastball had lots of life. Everything was going great but unfortunately for us through fifth, but in sixth everything changed. The first batter of the inning reached on a dropped strike three call. This is when, all of a sudden, [Bayliss] signaled to the  dugout in obvious pain. He had to be removed because he could not continue, and this changed our fortunes.

“Knowing runs were very hard to come by, we assumed coach Messina would be squeezing and we called a pitch out and that was exactly what they did. Unfortunately we were unable to execute, and they laid down the bunt which plated the go ahead run in the sixth.”

Mount Greylock (5-7) goes to Joe Wolfe to play McCann Tech on Tuesday.

Wahconah (4-6) goes to Amherst-Pelham on Wednesday.
