HATFIELD, Mass. – Gavin Snyder drove in the winning run with one out in the top of the eighth Monday as the Mount Everett baseball team came from behind to beat Smith Academy, 9-7.

Brady Carpenter led off the eighth with a single to right and moved up on JJ Schneider’s sacrifice bunt.

Cam Coon drew a walk ahead of Snyder’s single RBI single to bring in Carpenter and make it 8-7.

Brodie Kinna then worked a walk after falling behind, 0-2, to load the bases, and Trevor Leonard singled to center to drive in Coon and give the Eagles a two-run cushion.

Matt Lowe, who took over on the mound with one out in the sixth, worked around a walk and a single in the bottom of the eighth to leave the tying run on base and secure the win.

Smith Academy jumped on top with five runs in the bottom of the second to take a 7-4 lead.

But Leonard, who went to the mound in the second, held the line, allowing just one earned run in 4 and a third innings to allow Mount Everett’s offense to catch up.

Leonard ended up with seven strikeouts; Lowe struck out four in 2 and two-thirds innings.

The Eagles tied the game with three in the top of the seventh to force extra innings.

Mason Snyder walked with one out and came home with two out on Leonard’s RBI single to right.

Matt Lowe singled to put runners on the corners before Jacob Kreis hit a two-run double to tie it.

“Give credit to our guys coming back and tying it in the seventh and then winning it in the eighth,” Mount Everett coach Dan Lanoue said. “Trevor Leonard did a great job coming in relief, settling things down for us to make the comeback.

“Matt Lowe then finished off to earn the win.”

Lowe also ended up with a pair of hits at the plate. Kreis, Warren and Leonard each drove in two runs.

Mount Everett (6-2) is at Joe Wolfe Field in North Adams on Thursday to face Drury.
