NAPS to Hold Pre-K and Kindergarten Registration and Screening

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — North Adams Public Schools (NAPS) will hold registration and screening for both Pre-K and Kindergarten programs for the 2025-2026 school year. 
 
The events will take place at Brayton Elementary School, located at 20 Brayton Hill Terrace.
 
Pre-K application and screening will be conducted on March 24 and 25, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Children must be 3 or 4 years old by Aug. 31, 2025 to be eligible, but current NAPS Pre-K students do not need to reapply.
 
Kindergarten registration and screening will be held on March 26 and 27, also from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Children must reach 5 years of age by Aug. 31, 2025, to be eligible. Current NAPS Pre-K students are not required to register.
 
Both registration and screening events will be conducted by appointment only. Parents or guardians should contact Carrie Silva, Student Records Specialist, at (413) 776-1673 to schedule an appointment.
 
As part of the application and registration process, parents will need to pre-register their child.  This can be done online at napsk12.org/new-student-registration, or during the appointment itself.  Required documents can be found at napsk12.org/registration, and should be uploaded online prior to the appointment if possible.
 
The North Adams School Committee maintains a policy of nondiscrimination regarding admission to public schools and access to educational advantages, privileges, and courses of study, regardless of age, race, color, sex, gender identity, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, disability, or homelessness.

Clarksburg Sees One Race for War Memorial Trustee

CLARKSBURG, Mass. — The annual town election is Tuesday, May 13, from noon to 7 p.m. at the Community Center.
 
Mail in ballots/absentee are now available. Application for mail-in ballots must be submitted to the town clerk's office no later than noon on the fifth business day before the election, which is Monday, May 5. 
 
Applications are available on the town website, or call the town clerk at 413-663-8255. Absentee ballots are available until noon May 13.
 
The only contested race on the ballot is a three-year term for War Memorial trustee between incumbent Edward Denault and newcomer Michael Rivers.
 
Seth Lewis Alexander is running unopposed for a three-year term on the Select Board. He ran unsuccessfully for the board last year but was elected a moderator, for which he also is running unopposed.
 
Other offices that are unopposed are Michael Rivers for Board of Health, Richard Bernardi for McCann School Committee, Mary Giron for Clarksburg School Committee and Kyle Hurlbut for tree warden. All of the candidates are incumbents and the offices are three-year terms. 
 
A three-year seat and a five-year seat on the Planning Board have no candidates.
