Wildlife Biologist to Speak at January Berkshire Green Drinks Event

DALTON, Mass. — MassWildlife biologist Nathan Buckhout will present at the January Berkshire Green Drinks event on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2025.

This free hybrid event will be held both online via Zoom and in person at The Stationery Factory, 63 Flansburg Ave, Dalton. The in-person gathering begins at 5:00 PM, with the presentation and Zoom session starting at 6:00 PM.

Buckhout will share insights on black bear behavior, his research on Massachusetts black bears, and ways to prevent human-bear conflicts. A Q&A session will follow, during which attendees can ask questions about all types of wildlife.

Nathan Buckhout, an Air Force veteran and wildlife conservation biologist, has worked in locations including Alaska, Yellowstone, and the Great Smoky Mountains. He has been with MassWildlife since 2014 and holds a Master’s degree in wildlife conservation biology from UMass Amherst.

CRA May Day Race on May 4

DALTON, Mass — The 48th annual Community Recreation Association (CRA) May Day Races will be held Sunday, May 4, at Nessacus Middle School, with major sponsorship by Greylock Federal Credit Union. 
 
Races include 5-kilometer and 10-kilometer, the Obstacles & Popsicles kids' races for ages 8 and under, and a 1-mile Splatter Sprint for ages 8 and up, all with chip timing by Berkshire Running Center, along with an untimed fun walk.
 
The 5K road/trail race, 10K road race, and 2-mile fun walk begin at 9 a.m. The Obstacles & Popsicles races begin at 10 a.m., with the Splatter Sprint immediately following. The first 100 runners to register (combined 5K/10K) will receive a wicking T-shirt. Every participant in the Obstacles & Popsicles kids' races will receive a ribbon and freeze pop at the finish line. All proceeds benefit nonprofit CRA and Dalton Youth Center programs.
